How to make a rap song

Updated October 30, 2026

Pick one topic, write eight bars that rhyme, rap them on a beat with a hook everyone can shout, then put it on video. Here is each step, and a free shortcut for the lyrics.

Make a rap song in five steps

  1. Pick one topic. A rap song is about one thing: a person, a day, a win, a joke. Narrow it until it is yours, like "my brother always steals my fries" instead of "family".
  2. Write the lyrics. Write in bars: one line of rap is one bar. Start with eight. End each pair or group of lines on the same rhyme, and put the strongest line last. Stuck? The free rap lyrics generator writes eight bars from your topic in seconds.
  3. Find the flow. Read the lines out loud on a beat and count the syllables. Lines of about the same length sit on the beat; cut filler words until every line fits in one bar.
  4. Add a hook. The hook is the short part everyone remembers: two lines, simple words, said together. Put it at the end of the verse and repeat it.
  5. Put it on video. A rap song travels further as a video. The AI Rap Generator turns a photo of you and one of a friend into a 15-second rap video of you two rapping your lines for 50 credits, and the first 5-second clip is free.

How to write rap lyrics that rhyme

Rap lyrics live on two kinds of rhyme: end rhymes, the last word of each line, and internal rhymes inside the line. Multisyllabic rhymes, like "late again" and "make it then", sound the most like rap.

  • Write the punchline first, then the line that sets it up.
  • Use short, concrete words: names, places, things you can see.
  • Read every line out loud; if you trip on it, cut a word.
  • Keep the rhyme scheme simple: lines one to three on one sound, four to six on another.

Pick a style for the beat

  • Boom Bap: a dusty kick and snare, easy to follow, good for clever lines.
  • Trap: booming 808s and fast hi-hats, a bouncy triplet flow.
  • Drill and UK Grime: fast and cold, short clipped phrases.
  • Comedy: a playful beat where every bar is a joke.

Questions

How long is a rap verse?

A classic verse is sixteen bars, but eight is plenty for a short video: enough for a story, a punchline and a hook.

Do I need to sing or have a good voice?

No. Rap is rhythm more than melody. In the AI video, the voices and the beat are AI-made and you never record anything.

Where do I get a beat?

For practice, any instrumental at a steady tempo works. In the AI rap video, a fresh beat is made for every video, so you need none.

Can AI write rap lyrics for me?

Yes. The free [rap lyrics generator](/rap-lyrics-generator) writes eight original bars from a topic, a style and a mood, and you can edit every line.
